Visuals
Along my journey as a jewellery designer I have been inspired by many things and many people. Colours, patterns and textures create so much excitement for me because they can spark so many emotions and feelings which go on to inspire others and create things of beauty.
During my four years at university I have found myself being heavily influenced by science and biology, both of humans and plants, but more specifically on the skin and how much visual information can be contained within a single cell. I have been focusing my research on the skin condition vitiligo and the unusual patterns it creates on the body; I’ve always been confused and interested by the random patches so I began an exploration into how skin cells work and how this condition can be triggered. Through this I met some amazing scientists who inspired me through microscope imagery of the skin and lab experiments on the skin. I saw pinks, purples and blues, organic and uncontrolled structures contained within perfect shapes, and patterns hidden to the naked eye.
The imagery that I have gathered of these microscope images and of vitiligo patches has greatly inspired my work, as I have used similar colours and patterns and I have used techniques to try capture the randomness whilst making it controlled and perfected. Below are some of my own imagery that I have taken and some of my own paintings.
